Join us in making a difference by having dinner with your family
A national 12 year study has found that teenagers who eat dinner with their families
three times a week or more are half as likely to use drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

Cottage Grove Youth
Advisory Council
The City of Cottage Grove started the
Cottage Grove Youth Advisory Council (YAC) in December of 2005 by
recruiting students from within the Cottage Grove area to serve on the
YAC. The positions on the Council are open to all middle school
and high school aged youth in the community.
The basic purpose of the Youth
Advisory Council is to advise the City on issues that affect youth in
the community. In addition one of the members of the YAC is
selected each year by the City Council to serve as the Youth
Representative on the City Council. The City looks to the Youth
Advisory Council as the primary communication link between local
government and youth on a variety of subjects and opportunities.
The YAC is a valuable tool to provide additional input to the City.
The YAC meets monthly with the City
Manager and other City officials to discuss a variety of local
issues. The YAC meets on every 1st and 3rd Monday of the
month from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm (unless otherwise scheduled).
Youth Advisory Council members do not
need to live within the City limits, but must live within the South
Lane School District. Member of the Youth Advisory Council have
been selected to represent youth in the community from 7th to 12th
grade. YAC members serve for a one year term that begins in
September of each year and the youth can serve for more than one term.
Youth Advisory Councils have been
organized in communities around the state and country to gather input
from the youth of the community on local government issues and to
educate youth about the operation of local government.
Contact Richard Meyers, City Manager
if you have any questions or need more information regarding the Youth
Advisory Council.
