Visit Local Water!
Cottage Grove is home to many beautiful waterfalls, rivers and lakes. One of the best ways to become aware then spread awareness about the importance of water quality is to enjoy the pristine local waters of Cottage Grove. We hope our stormwater guidelines can play an active role in preserving these beautiful sites.
Some of our favorite local recreational water sites are displayed below.
Cottage Grove Lake
The lake and its shoreline set in the gently rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, is used for boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing, picnicking and camping. The Cottage Grove Dam, completed in 1942, stores up to 33,000 acre-feet of water and provides valuable flood control as well as irrigation, recreation and improved navigation downstream. The area is also managed to provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species, including waterfowl, blacktail deer, upland game birds, songbirds, bald eagles, osprey, and many other species.

Dorena Lake
The lake is located in rolling, partially wooded hill country. Its three parks offer boating, swimming, sailing, fishing and water skiing. Schwarz park located downstream of the dam, offers overnight camping for families and groups. Overnight camping is also available at Baker Park on the south side of the lake. The lakeshore is managed for wildlife habitat as well, including many species of birds and animals. Dorena Dam controls the Row River and reduces flood stages downstream on the Willamette River.

Row River Trail
The Row River Trail is part of the Covered Bridges Scenic Bikeway. Small-town charm, a lake at the foot of the Cascades, and a mostly flat path escort you past Dorena Dam and historic covered bridges. Lane County has more covered bridges than any county west of the Mississippi River.
The trail follows the route of the former Oregon Pacific & Eastern Railroad line, running along the scenic shore of the Row River and Dorena Reservoir and paralleling Row River Road for most of the way. Nearby, you'll find quaint covered bridges and the historic Bohemia mining area. The 3-mile section of trail from Cottage Grove to the Mosby Creek trailhead is managed by the city of Cottage Grove, while the remainder of the trail is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Cottage Grove has a downtown commercial historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sharp's Creek
Among the most picturesque of the swimming holes in the Cottage Grove area, the Sharps Creek Recreation Area offers easy day use access from Sharps Creek Road to the creek itself, where emerald pools await overheated visitors searching for respite from high summer temps. Sharps Creek has a modest flow for much of its length, but here the creek collects into two ideal swimming holes that are well worth the drive. A thick forest canopy offers shade options, but the creek gets quite a lot of direct sunlight along this stretch.

Wildwood Falls
Here the Row River (not Brice Creek, as is commonly assumed) plunges over two drops totaling approximately 20 feet before recollecting itself in an enormous, deep pool. A crescent of sheer cliff faces loom above the pool, providing many an intrepid leaper with more than enough airtime before splashing into the refreshing water below. The bold jump from the very highest levels, while several smaller ledges are great alternatives for the more restrained.
